This theme inspired us to do work with a strong undertone of pink, combined with other striped color fusions, in the fine knit jacquard fabric with a GF pattern. The photoshoot was to reflect friendship and to simply Be together with your friends; just the way you are.
“A spectrum (plural spectra or spectrums) is a condition that is not limited to a specific set of values but can vary, without steps, across a continuum. The word was first used scientifically in optics to describe the rainbow of colors in visible light after passing through a prism. As scientific understanding of light advanced, it came to apply to the entire electromagnetic spectrum.” .
It is not the nearness in geography that creates closeness, it is the place someone has in your heart.
No book will ever be able to describe ones laughter; no song could ever tell the story of your true pain, only you can. We all matter, just as we are. It does not mean you will be friends with everyone on the planet, it means respecting everyone as part of this world. Also, the imprints we make in other people’s hearts, is our true legacy when leaving this world.
So, this collection became a tribute to friendship all over, and the true blessing is to have someone in your life that has your back, and where you can simply just be. I am blessed to have a selected few, to whom I dedicate this collection to. But I also look forward to expanding that circle in the future.
“In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.
The spectrum theme has many layers and dimensions, as it means and can refer to many different things and subtopics. The most evident connection to rainbows reminds me of how much work there is ahead of us before the right to love whomever you want gets fully embraced by society. How one wishes there was a button to press that would end the hate and prejudice that exists in this world.
One of my best friends was gay, and died in 2017. He died scared of beeing fully open about his lifestyle choice, to the ones he loved the most; and his death was a tragedy. He was one of the most brilliant and amazing persons I have ever met, and there will always be an empty space in my heart that will belong to him. I wish the world would have been a friendlier and more inclusive place for him (and many others) while he was alive. But just like the spectrum is a continuum, so is the work towards inclusion. And in his honour, I will continue to work for a more open and inclusive world with the time I am given, in the best way I can. Like the true friend he was, he saw the greatness in me when I did not see it myself. For that I will always be grateful.
“Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers, but most of all surround yourself with those who see greatness in you when you don’t see it yourself”
A spectrum can also refer to someone that has Autism (ASD) or Neuropsychiatric Disorders. Something that I knew very little of before I had children, but has opened my eyes up to another dimension in this world. Some still sadly look at individuals beeing on the spectrum as less capable. I look at these individuals as equals, that function in a different way than myself, but are just as, or perhaps even more, capable of doing the things I do; if people would just adjust a little. I wish everyone would have the privilege to walk beside a person with ASD/NPD for a day. To understand the challenges they face, and how harsh society can be to these sensitive and amazing souls. But also, to see the greatness and abilities, not to mention creative potential some have (Even if everyone is different and unique). If we just work together to adjust, more people could become part of the society and contribute. I feel blessed to not be in the dark about this anymore.
“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”
– Albert Schweitzer
So, the theme of the spectrum was the inspiration for this collection that connected us to Rainbows, Friendships and many other subtopics not mentioned here. Let this be a seed that grows within from now on, to inspire us all to make conscious and inclusive choices in our lives.
